About Rochester

Rochester is located in southeastern New Hampshire. It is the largest city in the seacoast region and fourth largest city in New Hampshire. Encompassing over 46 square miles of rolling hills and rivers, Rochester is ideal for businesses and residents alike.

Rochester offers a convenient location and easy access to New Hampshire’s famous Lakes Region, the White Mountains with its ski resorts and the Seacoast with its superb beaches. Rochester is known for its famous lilacs in the spring, blooming flowers in the summer, spectacular autumn foliage and fresh-fallen winter snow, all making Rochester and the surrounding area a scenic delight.

Rochester enjoys many of the conveniences of a prospering city combined with the delights of small-town New England traditions. Art enthusiasts can enjoy the talent offered by our local theatre group, art galleries, summer concert series, music and dance studios and the historic Rochester Opera House, where cultural and civic activities are offered to residents and organizations in the area.

Traditions of strong family values, skilled labor force and lasting community spirit sustain the lasting pride among residents and businesses in Rochester. This great sense of pride is exhibited through its tremendous spirit of volunteerism as the people of Rochester come together to support many community efforts. Businesses take part in a number of programs including the Adopt-a-Spot beautification program by maintaining and caring for an array of colorful flowers planted in various parts of the City that tastefully decorate Rochester.

Rochester is a Main Street Community with an active downtown group working to enhance and promote downtown businesses. Antiques, appliances, art galleries, craft gallery of local artisans, financial institutions, gift shops, medical supplies, restaurants and several service companies are found in downtown Rochester.

Shopping and Dining in Rochester provides residents in the city and surrounding communities with a variety of dining pleasures, an attractive downtown area as well as several malls and plazas. Clothing, grocery, department and “big box” stores are found at several plazas and malls located around the City.

There is much to do and enjoy in Rochester. Recreational activities include theater, golf course, summer concerts, ball fields, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice skating, hiking, walking paths, rivers, ponds and lakes.

Rochester has been ranked among the top communities for quality of life. Economic data, arts, culture, and recreation are among the factors considered when seeking the nation’s best places to live. Rochester’s widely recognized high quality of life and supportive environment make it the best choice of destinations to live or do business.
